An Alternative to University…

Last week we had Tess, a student at Oxford Media & Business School working with us and gaining experience of being in an office. She spent her week doing lots of social media, writing job adverts and learning how to manoeuvre around the website and how to add jobs and content to it. We thought she was fantastic and we thoroughly enjoyed having her in the office with us. For those of you finishing school and not sure whether to go to university, straight into the workplace or looking for something different to do, have a read of the blog that Tess has written for us about her time at Oxford Media & Business School. Thank you Tess! I originally had a place at Oxford Brookes to study Anthropology, however during my gap year, I realised that I was picking the course for the sake of going to University. After doing some work, it was evident that I wanted to get into the working world as soon as possible, rather than studying for three more years. After some research into alternatives to University, I came across the Professional Business Diploma course at Oxford Media & Business School. This course was exactly what I was looking for and so I made the conscious decision to withdraw my University offer. The course has given me the opportunity to spend a year in..

The Advantages of Temping

Are you on University holidays or have you just graduated and are looking to gain some office experience and make some summer pocket money? Temp work has various advantages and it is something that we recommend doing, not only to help build up your CV but also to get a feel for different types of offices and industries and perhaps help you decide what sort of environment you would like to work in eventually. Some people may think that temping offers you the odd day here and there; there are also opportunities to spend weeks to months within the same temp job. Whatever period of time it is that you are looking to fill, you will likely be able to find a temp job to match. Below are some of the top advantages of temping. Try before you buy If you are unsure of the sort of industry, office or role that you would like to go into or perhaps haven’t spent any time in an office before, then temping offers you the opportunity to experience different environments and varying roles (depending on prior experience), allowing you to gain experience and ‘try before you buy’. This is a great thing as it means that when you come to look for a full time job, if that is what you would like to do, then you may have a more defined..

Bringing Your Dream Role…

What if I told you that you could dream your ideal role into reality? Or more specifically, create it? This might sound like madness but stay with me and let me tell you how you can do just that.   Before I continue, allow me to introduce myself. I am Faye, a Purpose & Life Coach otherwise known as The ‘What If’ Coach. I specialise in supporting individuals to go from feeling lost and frustrated to feeling focused and inspired. I am a trained Coach, I’ve studied BSc (Hons) Psychology and I am fascinated with learning about the power of the mind. Why? Because our minds create our entire reality and when you learn to shift your mindset, you can literally change your entire world. I appreciate this concept may feel a little out there right now but stay with me.   If I had to take a guess, you are likely searching for jobs by scrolling through job adverts and applying for ones you think you are capable of doing. Am I right? This is certainly one way, but I’m here to suggest that there is a much more powerful way to create the role you want. You see, whatever you feed your mind and your subconscious, it will begin to look for in the world. Your subconscious does not know the difference between what is real and what..

JG Jolly 2019

Every year as a team, we like to do something a little different and take the opportunity to spend some time together outside of the office. This year was no exception and we have returned to the office after a fantastic day and a half outside of London. On Tuesday we brought our overnight bags packed with thermals and hot water bottles into the office and left work after lunch to head to Hampshire where we would be glamping for the night. We arrived at our destination, Manor Farm, which is part of the Featherdown Collection, and were greeted by clear blue skies and beautiful views over the fields and hills. Manor farm offers a collection of accommodation options and we had opted for the tents which have a hot tub and separate showers. Being glamping, there was no electricity and so the most important thing was to get the stoves lit to heat the tents, and our food(!), along with lighting the hot tubs for some evening entertainment. We had a fantastic evening sitting outside by the fire, enjoying being out of London together. After a good night’s sleep in the beds in our tents, we had breakfast and packed up, ready to go to our next stop – Newlyns Farm Shop and cookery school. Despite the amazing farm shop, and surrounding boutiques, we weren’t there to shop, but..

Sistr Speed Mentoring Lunch

On Wednesday, Pip and Louisa went to a Sistrs Speed Mentoring lunch; Pip was speaking about the ways in which you can write an attention-grabbing CV and ‘nail’ your interview preparation, ensuring that you leave a strong lasting impression. It’s aimed at women in business and offers you instant support from a wide range of women, all with different business experiences, with varying advice to give. Everyone could also listen to the four ‘Gurus’ who were there to talk about how they got to where they are today and to impart their top tips relating to their area of expertise. It was a fantastic opportunity to meet many people, with such a wide range of experience and get instant answers on areas where you may have had questions. Pip and Louisa had a great time meeting and talking to everyone and hearing about their experiences whilst sharing useful tips to assist with their next interviews and job applications! Sistr are doing a fantastic thing, allowing women from all areas of the working world, to form a..
