Are you on University holidays or have you just graduated and are looking to gain some office experience and make some summer pocket money? Temp work has various advantages and it is something that we recommend doing, not only to help build up your CV but also to get a feel for different types of offices and industries and perhaps help you decide what sort of environment you would like to work in eventually.

Some people may think that temping offers you the odd day here and there; there are also opportunities to spend weeks to months within the same temp job. Whatever period of time it is that you are looking to fill, you will likely be able to find a temp job to match. Below are some of the top advantages of temping.

  1. Try before you buy

If you are unsure of the sort of industry, office or role that you would like to go into or perhaps haven’t spent any time in an office before, then temping offers you the opportunity to experience different environments and varying roles (depending on prior experience), allowing you to gain experience and ‘try before you buy’. This is a great thing as it means that when you come to look for a full time job, if that is what you would like to do, then you may have a more defined idea of what it is that you would like and the role that you would like to do.

  1. Gain experience

If you have done little work throughout your education, or work that isn’t highly transferable to an office environment, then temping can help you gain valuable experience that can be added to your CV. Gaining experience is very important, especially if you are looking for your first job, or changing industries. The experience that you gain can make your CV more attractive to potential employers and allows you to demonstrate a series of skills that you perhaps have.

  1. Regular pay

If you have just moved to a new location and are yet to find or start a job, money can be very tight as there is likely no source of income. When temping, you will get paid weekly (Joyce Guiness pay weekly as do most other temp agencies) and therefore results in making it easier to budget and keep yourself afloat.

  1. Flexibility

Temp jobs can fill in the gaps you have between holidays or jobs and they offer you a huge amount of flexibility. Not so much so that you can come and go as you please, but you can temp whilst looking for a permanent job and due to there being no contract, your notice period is much shorter than if you are in a permanent job, allowing you to start a permanent role as soon as possible whilst also working up until that point and earning an income.

We have a whole range of temp jobs coming through our doors and we are always on the lookout for more candidates so if you are looking to temp, then don’t hesitate to get in touch with our temp consultants by sending them an email, along with your CV, to [email protected].
