On Wednesday 5th April, Joyce Guiness are hosting a Spring Pop Up Event. We have fabulous companies coming; Stella and Dot, Davina Mulford, My Showcase make up, Elysia Byrd, JoJo Hats and Sherab Young. The evening, which will take place between  5pm-8pm and will be a chance for you to meet new people and have a catch up with friends. Of course all this with a glass of bubbles in hand! With the weather outside today you would not know that Summer is just around the corner. Not only does the Summer bring glorious weather (?!), BBQ’s and a whole lot of fun, it also is a time when sporting events come into their own. This blog is all about various British sporting events which are taking place over the Summer 2017. BADMINTON HORSE TRIALS Bringing in the summer is Badminton Horse Trials which is a four day, all-rounder event. It is great fun. The Thursday and Friday showcase the world’s best dressage horses, with some beautiful routines. Saturday is the most popular day, it is the Cross Country course. Not only is it fun to watch with the jumps getting harder each year, but you can also walk the beautiful course. Sunday is more of a relaxed day in comparison to the hectic Cross Country Saturday. You can sit and watch horses jumping to amazing heights, of course excitement is added as it is the culmination of the competition, and you can see the prize winner being given the amazing prize. Badminton is not just for the horse lovers. The shops which exhibit there are fantastic: gourmet food stands, specialist leather shops, clothes stalls even pet shops. There has been excitement in the Joyce Guiness office over the last week, due to London’s beach opening! We believe that London is the best city in the world and a beach is the only thing that could make it better. ‘Neverland’ is the pop up of the summer. It is an outdoor stretch of Thames beach on the North side of the river, south of Fulham and next to Wandsworth Bridge. It will have amazing street food and in true British style will have Beach Huts. Although Neverland is alcohol free, there is the opportunity to BYOB, they even provide mocktails for you then to create cocktails! Tickets to get into this event costs £5 with no corkage fee. Why do Work Experience? What is the relevance of work experience and how can it help you? Right now I am doing a stint of work experience at Joyce Guiness, where I am being made aware of the skills required in a recruitment agency. While this may not show any relevance to future plans and ideas, it will help provide me a very basic foundation and set of skills for whatever career I end up with.  It is very busy at Joyce Guiness at the moment; we have so many amazing candidates going in to interview, so we thought that a blog on interview tips would be appropriate for both the seasoned interviewers and those which are slightly newer to the process. With anything, a certain amount of preparation needs to take place and interviews are no different. It is important to research the company thoroughly: this includes looking at the interviewer’s LinkedIn, finding out about what exactly it is the company does, what your role will entail and any other relevant information, perhaps a recent news story on it. Doing research will help with settling your nerves as well as giving you useful information which can help you answer any difficult questions in a comprehensive way. It also gives you a chance to show off your knowledge of the company. INTERVIEW DRESS The way that you dress for the interview depends on the company. If they are a finance company it tends to be corporate which means going smart (suit/ dress). In May, Kate joined our team as a Senior Consultant. She has been fab and it feels as though she has been here forever! Previously, she had been a PA in the Royal Household and at an Exec search company. We thought we would ask a few questions about her transition from being a PA to a Recruitment Consultant: What did you enjoy about being a PA? I loved the variety of the role and developing a close relationship with both the team and the Principals I worked for. Some thoughts on how to approach a career plan.   I was very fortunate to join Pip Cox, Managing Director of Joyce Guiness at a tremendously inspiring event hosted by Addie Pinkster and Alex Corley-Smith of Adelpha. The guest speaker was Jan Babiak a frankly awe-inspiring individual and very successful businesswoman. Jan’s words and her story gave us so many thoughts and ideas it is hard to whittle these down to one area however, Jan’s comments around the benefits of a life plan resonated very strongly with Pip and I. We are both fortunate in that we meet a wide variety of candidates across different sectors and at various stages of their careers.  Experience has shown us that individuals can struggle as they leave university or full-time education as they are faced with a smorgasbord of potential career options.  It can be difficult for them to isolate a career path, as well as identifying the right job and company for them. With that, we wanted to take some time to look at how individuals might put together a career plan that will hopefully provide clarity and framework, not only at the start of their working lives, but also potentially as they progress and explore other industries and roles.  Each person is, of course, different and so how you approach your plan..

We think that Christmas time is the perfect time to ditch those diets and start sampling all the delights that come at this time of year. We are going to give a run down of our favourite, festive foods and how to create them! PIGS IN BLANKETS To kick start, we are going to do a popular, much loved choice at Christmas- Pigs in Blankets. To find the best recipe we have called on Jamie Oliver who gives us a mouth watering version. Method Preheat the oven to 180ºC/350ºF/gas 4. Working one at a time, lay the bacon out on a board and run the sharp side of your knife along the length of the rasher to stretch it out – this will make it even crispier. Dot with a few herb leaves, then place a sausage at one end and roll the bacon around it until it’s totally wrapped up. Place in a roasting tray and repeat till they’re all done. Cook for 30 minutes, or until golden, gnarly and cooked through. Using a fish slice, scrape the pigs in blankets from the bottom of the tray, leaving them in there, then add the Worcestershire sauce and give it a good shake, scraping all that sticky goodness from the bottom of the tray.
