With the weather outside today you would not know that Summer is just around the corner. Not only does the Summer bring glorious weather (?!), BBQ’s and a whole lot of fun, it also is a time when sporting events come into their own. This blog is all about various British sporting events which are taking place over the Summer 2017.

BADMINTON HORSE TRIALS

Bringing in the summer is Badminton Horse Trials which is a four day, all-rounder event. It is great fun. The Thursday and Friday showcase the world’s best dressage horses, with some beautiful routines. Saturday is the most popular day, it is the Cross Country course. Not only is it fun to watch with the jumps getting harder each year, but you can also walk the beautiful course. Sunday is more of a relaxed day in comparison to the hectic Cross Country Saturday. You can sit and watch horses jumping to amazing heights, of course excitement is added as it is the culmination of the competition, and you can see the prize winner being given the amazing prize. Badminton is not just for the horse lovers. The shops which exhibit there are fantastic: gourmet food stands, specialist leather shops, clothes stalls even pet shops. I highly recommend it, a great day out watching riding and some retail therapy- what more could you want?!

ROYAL ASCOT

Staying on the equestrian theme, Royal Ascot falls in June. This is a week of horse racing. It is a great day out, but not one for the faint hearted. The prize money for the winner is £6.85million, this means that people from all over the world come with their horses to compete. The standard of the racing is great. There are lots of different restaurants which you can wine and dine in, not to mention the amount of betting booths- you can either be very lucky, or in my case very unlucky! Perhaps one of the highlights of the day is the dressing up. Ascot have a very strict dress code, you have to wear a hat and a knee length dress. This means that it really is a special event, with the best of British atmosphere coming out. Make sure you do not miss the singing with the brass band at the end.

ROYAL HENLEY REGATTA

At the end of June every year Henley Regatta takes place. This is such a fun event and one really not to be missed. Rowers from all levels including school, university and international clubs come and join the fun. With spectators viewing from the Steward’s boats and the banks of the river it really is lovely. There are restaurants and bars, with some amazing food. You can also camp, which is not only practical but also a really fun thing to do. If you are really ready for a party, Mahiki have a tent so you can party through the night.

WIMBLEDON

Strawberries and cream, prosecco, tennis. What else could sum up the British summer quite like the Wimbledon Championships. Once tennis fever hits Britain there is no better sign that summer has arrived. If you are lucky enough to get tickets to the main courts your day is down to you! However, if you haven’t, there are plenty of ways you can still join in on all the action. To camp out is the popular option, but, if camping isn’t for you and you just want to soak up the atmosphere, ground court and general admissions are sold all day. This means that you can just pop in after work and enjoy Murray winning on Murray Mount, along with some strawberries and cream. Count me in!
