, a new scheme, funded privately by Singaporean investors is “a new way to live in London”, is the corporate answer to the issues facing new workers or students in the capital hunting for a flat and someone to share the costs. It claims to give tenants –“a hassle-free, collective life similar to a student hall of residence, but for people starting out on their career”. Sounds great right? Some agree but most say it’s a faze that can’t last, and won’t last. Most of the rooms are 10 sq metres  in size only and relatively dear compared to the traditional flat-shares seen in London’s inner suburbs, but here you won’t find cockroaches, mice or untidy bedroom as the new set ups even come with cleaners, who are included in the cost of living there, either once a week or once every two weeks. Those that enquire and are keen to move there typically pay just over £1,000 a month for what the scheme has called a “Twodio”. For that they get a bed described as “double” – smaller than your average double bed, plus a private bathroom and access to a kitchen unit that is shared with one other tenant (let’s hope you get along!)  Bedclothes are supplied free of charge (to fit the smaller beds) as is the gas, wifi and other bills too. Last week we had a couple of amazing training days with Acet People. It was so worthwhile and we all came away feeling like we had learnt so much. Whilst we were in training, we left our office in the capable hands of Maddie who did such a great job. During her time, she wrote a quick blog about her job hunt and why Joyce Guiness are a league of their own! “I left Quest Professional in June 2014 and was lucky enough to find a job working for a luxury British fashion brand as Front of House & Retail Operations Assistant at their Head Office for nearly 2 years. I then moved on to work as a PA to the CFO & Directors of another British retail brand. Most recently I was working as a PA to the founders of a luxury PR agency but sadly I was made redundant, so now I am on the job hunt again which is always daunting, but knowing there are great agencies around to sign up with and that they are there to help you with your search and guide you to finding the perfect job it is a great comfort and advantage due to them also having great leads into company’s you wouldn’t of known about otherwise. Why do Work Experience? What is the relevance of work experience and how can it help you? Right now I am doing a stint of work experience at Joyce Guiness, where I am being made aware of the skills required in a recruitment agency.   Last week, you probably would have seen the huge number of social media posts and blogs written about the Langman Cup Polo Tournament which took place last Saturday. What a day it was! The Cup was being played in honour of Roy Langman and was organised by his daughter and Ingrid’s sister Charlotte. We arrived at Epsom Polo Club, and the ground had been transformed with food and drink stalls with a few classic cars! Whilst sipping our champagne and swallowing our oysters the first event of the day started. This was a classic Alfa Romeo racing one of the polo ponies, I thought that it was obvious the car would win, but, I could not have been more wrong! With the car skidding in the mud, the horse ran to victory in front of a big crowd! There was such delicious food to keep us full through the day. There was a Farmyard Kitchen offering everything from burgers and chips to fajitas, for more of a snack there was a focaccia van and of course there was the amazing Oyster bar for those who fancied something a bit different! Tattinger were keeping us hydrated all day with their very drinkable champagne… The first polo match took place; it was the HAC against Epsom Polo Club which was a really well fought match and Epsom Polo Club just managed..

It is a New Year, and now is a popular time for people to be looking for jobs and for clients to be recruiting for their jobs to be filled. We thought that it would be a good time to revisit a blog which was written to give advice on securing the first role in London. I started my career working in television running the events at their Head Office. The number of events we used to do used to overwhelm me sometimes. Knowing how much work was involved was incredible and when you are running 3 - 5 events a day, outsourcing some of the work was my only option. Bringing in agency staff was a brilliant way of managing the workload and to ensure efficiency. This used to range from staff helping set up the event, to staff working there, managing the guest list along with meeting and greeting clients. When I became a Personal Assistant, there would be times when you would need to bring in a temp, sometimes at really short notice and this is where having a temp agency is great. We know that writing your CV can be very daunting.  Where do you even begin?  We have all been there...and so we have decided to give you the inside scoop so there is no way your CV will go to the bottom of the pile! Here is our Golden Guide! Personal Profile: This is the first thing your future employer will read about you and is the part that makes them want to continue reading! Just write a few lines about yourself but don’t write an essay.  Stick to short and sweet!  If you are finding this tricky, ask your friends or family for three good words that would describe you in order to point you in the right direction. Education: Your education years should be listed in reverse chronological order and should be followed by the qualifications and grades you have achieved. Career History: This is where you highlight the tasks and responsibilities that you have carried out in your last role. Make sure you highlight areas that are relevant to the job you are applying for.. If you have not had much experience, don’t fret, just think about other things you have been involved with such as volunteering, school activities, work experience and internships.  If there was something you particularly enjoyed and/or that you were very good at, do mention this as it will add depth to your experience..

We are very excited to announce our new initiative at Joyce Guiness - #JGStories.  The idea for this came from the fact that recruitment is still, advances in technology notwithstanding, a people business and really knowing what makes people tick is key to what we do.  With that, over the next few months, we are going to lift the lid on the JG team’s lives (given they spend their time delving into their candidates’ lives as they look to match them to the perfect role!).   Alongside that, we are also going to focus on some of our lovely clients (so we can find out more about what they get up to when they are not in the office…), as well as some of the talented candidates we have placed to find out how they are doing and if they have any advice for anyone looking for a role in their industry.
