THE PERFECT CV

We know that writing your CV can be very daunting.  Where do you even begin?  We have all been there…and so we have decided to give you the inside scoop so there is no way your CV will go to the bottom of the pile!

Here is our Golden Guide!

Personal Profile:

This is the first thing your future employer will read about you and is the part that makes them want to continue reading! Just write a few lines about yourself but don’t write an essay.  Stick to short and sweet!  If you are finding this tricky, ask your friends or family for three good words that would describe you in order to point you in the right direction.

Education:

Your education years should be listed in reverse chronological order and should be followed by the qualifications and grades you have achieved.

Career History:

This is where you highlight the tasks and responsibilities that you have carried out in your last role. Make sure you highlight areas that are relevant to the job you are applying for..

If you have not had much experience, don’t fret, just think about other things you have been involved with such as volunteering, school activities, work experience and internships.  If there was something you particularly enjoyed and/or that you were very good at, do mention this as it will add depth to your experience and give employers an indication of your skills and areas of interest..

Skills:

It is definitely worthwhile listing any languages you speak, training courses you have been on and you should also include details of the different computer software tools you’ve used.

Hobbies and Interests:

This is a great part of your CV to get across the sort of person you are. List a few things that you enjoy doing in your free time. From cooking to travelling, to spending time with friends, there is no right or wrong answer for this section, and it is a great way to give an insight into your character. Why not add something a little different and make some great talking points in the interview.

Formatting 101: This is our personal suggestion as we know this always works well!

• Font – Calibri/Arial
• Size 11/12
• Try and fit your CV on to two pages, any longer than three and you’ve lost them!
• Be consistent with all punctuation throughout your CV

• Accurate
• Adaptable
• All-rounder
• Confident
• Initiative
• Forward-thinking
• Hard-working
• Innovative
• Organised
• Pro-active
• Reliable
• Responsible

Common mistakes to look out for:

• Make sure your contact details are correct. You would be surprised by the amount of CVs we receive that have the wrong telephone number or email addresses!!
• There is no need to include a headshot or your date of birth.
