Consultant Interview: Kate

In May, Kate joined our team as a Senior Consultant. She has been fab and it feels as though she has been here forever! Previously, she had been a PA in the Royal Household and at an Exec search company. We thought we would ask a few questions about her transition from being a PA to a Recruitment Consultant: What did you enjoy about being a PA? I loved the variety of the role and developing a close relationship with both the team and the Principals I worked for. It was fantastic working for the Royal Household and meeting some remarkable people. Why did you make the change into recruitment? I wanted a new challenge and I thought that having spent the last 8 years as a PA, I could relate to candidates and also understand clients’ needs. What is it like working in recruitment? I love it!! There is nothing better than telling a candidate that they have got a job! It is so satisfying matching the right candidates to clients, ensuring both parties are happy. Why did you choose Joyce Guiness? The team! I came to register with JG when I was looking for a new role and I was so impressed by Jessie, my then Consultant, but the whole team were always so professional and friendly. I registered with two other agencies at the time but JG..

Cracking Christmas Cooking!

If you know Joyce Guiness, you know how much we love our food! We think that Christmas time is the perfect time to ditch those diets and start sampling all the delights that come at this time of year. We are going to give a run down of our favourite, festive foods and how to create them! PIGS IN BLANKETS To kick start, we are going to do a popular, much loved choice at Christmas- Pigs in Blankets. To find the best recipe we have called on Jamie Oliver who gives us a mouth watering version. Method Preheat the oven to 180ºC/350ºF/gas 4. Working one at a time, lay the bacon out on a board and run the sharp side of your knife along the length of the rasher to stretch it out – this will make it even crispier. Dot with a few herb leaves, then place a sausage at one end and roll the bacon around it until it’s totally wrapped up. Place in a roasting tray and repeat till they’re all done. Cook for 30 minutes, or until golden, gnarly and cooked through. Using a fish slice, scrape the pigs in blankets from the bottom of the tray, leaving them in there, then add the Worcestershire sauce and give it a good shake, scraping all that sticky goodness from the bottom of the tray. Drizzle in the..

5 Tips to secure…

Trying to second-guess what questions you may be asked, in any interview, is always daunting.  But .... before you get yourself into a flustered panic ...relax...we are going to let you in on the secret of how to answer  questions like a pro! What are your career goals? With this question, your future employer wants to gauge how long you intend to stay within the company or role.  Definitely refer to the position you are being interviewed for and where you hope to see yourself progressing to within this company. This will also show that you have done your research on the company and different possible positions that you may see yourself reaching in time. But remember don run before you can walk! It is important to show that you are interested in progressing in your career and that you are motivated. Why do you want to leave your current company? This, too, is a very important question and is imperative to get right. Rather than talking about what is driving you away from your current company and employment and discussing any negatives you may have with them, you need to focus on what you wish to achieve with a new move and how you hope it will help you gain valuable experience in your career path.  Highlight some aspects of the job you are being interviewed for, that you..

Introducing #JGStories

We are very excited to announce our new initiative at Joyce Guiness - #JGStories.  The idea for this came from the fact that recruitment is still, advances in technology notwithstanding, a people business and really knowing what makes people tick is key to what we do.  With that, over the next few months, we are going to lift the lid on the JG team’s lives (given they spend their time delving into their candidates’ lives as they look to match them to the perfect role!).   Alongside that, we are also going to focus on some of our lovely clients (so we can find out more about what they get up to when they are not in the office…), as well as some of the talented candidates we have placed to find out how they are doing and if they have any advice for anyone looking for a role in their industry. So, to start the ball rolling, we decided to sit our MD, Pip Cox, down and discover a few things about her – as well as covering what it is like running a business and being a mum.  We hope you will enjoy #JGStories and please do feel free to send us your comments or questions.  Alongside that, if you are a candidate or client and you are happy to be featured – please do let us know! What did..
